The results of the Automotive Science Group’s annual Performance Index were announced in early June, with four Hyundai vehicles taking home awards in their respective classes. The Hyundai Ioniq Plug-In, Ioniq Hybrid, Santa Fe, and Kona were all recognized for their superior performance.
The ASG Performance Index is designed to evaluate automobiles based on qualities usually ignored in other studies: their larger impact on the global population, economy, and environment. ASG recognizes the top vehicles in these categories, naming winners in both individual segments and the auto industry overall.
Hyundai Hybrid/EV Awards
Both the Hyundai Ioniq Plug-in and Hybrid made the Large Car Best All-Around Performance list, and the Ioniq Plug-In was the industry-wide winner for Best Environmental Performance, with the smallest carbon footprint of the more than 1600 vehicles assessed.
Hyundai SUV Awards
The Hyundai Santa Fe also earned a place on the ASG Best All-Around Performance list for the entire SUV segment, making it one of the most socially and environmentally friendly SUVs you can buy. The Kona won Best Economic Performance in the subcompact crossover category thanks to its low fuel costs and impressive utility.
ASG pulls a wide range of data to determine the leaders in these categories, including fuel economy ratings, the greenness of the electricity sources used to power electrified vehicles, and even the potential for reducing renewable energy costs. The ASG Performance Index is the only auto industry study that lets drivers choose a car that’s not only good for them, but for the world around them.
